Artificial Intelligence-AI tools such as ChatGPT are not fundamentally a threat for lawyers. These are tools that can assist with document generation and research. However, many legal professionals are having ethical concern on its wide usage by non legal professionals thinking it as an option. In fact, the results generated by the AI tools may not be legal binding and any such documents or information have to be done under the guidance of qualified legal professionals.

AI has the potential to automate certain tasks traditionally performed by lawyers, such as document review, legal research, and contract drafting. However, it is unlikely that AI will completely replace lawyers in the near future. When AI can help with tedious and repetitive tasks, it is still unable to fully understand and interpret the complexity and refinements of the law, as well as the human judgement and decision-making that are necessary in legal situations. It will take some time for the technology to be fully integrated and for the legal and regulatory frameworks to be put in place because the legal system is highly regulated. It is more likely that AI will support legal professionals than fully replace them in their employment.

Lawyers should be aware of the key technological developments in the legal field such as:

1. Blockchain technology is being used to create tamper-proof digital records for legal transactions and to create smart contracts, which can automatically execute the terms of an agreement.
2. Machine learning (ML) and artificial intelligence (AI) are being used to automate repetitive tasks including contract drafting, document inspection, and legal research.
3. Metaverse, Legal design, Virtual reality and augmented reality are being used to create immersive simulations for legal training and to help lawyers visualize complex legal concepts.

It is important for lawyers to keep themselves updated with these technologies and understand how they can be applied in legal practice.
